Reader, I love that God straight out tells us in His Word that there’s a way we can think differently.

He’s in the business of changing minds (and hearts).

Isn’t that what salvation is?

I was once walking in darkness; now I live in the light and I’m alive in Christ. He’s living in me through the Holy Spirit. I’m part of the living body of Christ in the Church, and He’s daily changing me, my mind, my heart, and changing how I live in the world as I abide in Him. (And He's doing it for you too!)

Earlier this week I launched the first episode in a 4-part series called Seeking Certainty.

Sometimes, all of the unknowns of life and our dreams can feel pretty daunting. We want clarity. We want certainty. Because maybe, we think, it wouldn’t feel so scary if we had those things.

If you’re prone to fatalistic thinking (or have a loud inner critic like me), it might feel easier to give up on a dream before you even begin because the questions come like wildfire and it’s difficult to know what to do with them.

Isn’t it amazing that God’s Word teaches that it’s possible to think differently?

There’s one more thing from that verse in Romans 12 that I don’t want us to miss. It follows the word “Then.”

Let’s look at it again:

Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

What does “test and approve” mean? I wanted to be sure, so I looked it up in the Blue Letter Bible and one of the definitions of the word translated as “prove” is this:

“to recognize as genuine after examination”

Once you are transformed by the renewing of your mind, then you will be able to recognize as genuine God’s good, pleasing and perfect will.

Allowing God to shift how we think changes how we see His will. At least that’s what I’m taking from this little mini word study today. And in that, He helps us see our dreams (and our questions) in a new light.
