One simple truth for when your dream feels out of reach

Reader,

When you think about your dream, is it difficult to envision it actually happening?

Some of us are wired to visualize the possibilities, and some of us get stuck in the past, maybe remembering the last time you tried something outside of your comfort zone.

Whichever camp you fall into, these are the questions that usually come up at the sight of someone else’s success. Questions like:

“How did she do that?”

“What did it take to get there?”

“Could I ever do something like that?”

In addition to those questions, it’s like the success story alone isn’t enough. I always have more questions about how she got there and what it was like before she “arrived” at the finish line.

I’ve been around the block too many times to believe in the overnight success (but when you’re the one struggling, it’s tempting to think “that’s what happens for other people; why is it so hard for me?”)

So, when I shared the Dreams in Bloom series with you last month, I hope it painted a picture for you of what’s possible even if you are starting without a clue what your next step might be.

I’d love to know which story resonated with you the most (click on the links below to vote).

Was it:

Michelle’s story about being paralyzed by self-doubt and the pressure to figure out what her dream would look like (and feeling like it had to be PERFECT before she could begin).

Terri’s story about feeling unsure about her dream and eventually becoming confident in doing what God had naturally wired her to do—life and legacy ministry.

✨ Megan’s story of no longer feeling isolated because she’s finally connected with women who understand the highs and lows of building something with God.

My story of working through the spiral of fear about starting something I’d never done before.

I started this series because I want to start sharing more case study-style dreamer stories that talk about the journey. When you see what my students and clients have experienced, I hope it demonstrates what can be possible for you as well.

Because it IS possible for you.

There are a few helpful ingredients for the I'm-finally-following-my-dream recipe, many of which you can glean from their stories, but the most important one is this:

What you BELIEVE about yourself and about your heavenly Father.

He’s the one who will walk with you in those early timid moments.

And He’s the one you will rejoice over when you get past a barrier you never could have imagined breaching five years ago.

He will hold you, strengthen you, and remind you who you are…because of WHOSE you are.

And that is all very good news.

Are you looking for a space where you can be yourself and walk with other dreamers who want to make progress, like you; who struggle, like you; and who don’t want to do it alone anymore…like you?

You’re invited to the Dreamer Mastermind on Wednesday, Dec. 10th at 11:45am MST.

This event has a monthly cadence in my Dream Believers community. Check out what Megan says about it:

“I found myself counting down the days until the next Dream Believers Mastermind Call because it was so life-giving.”

I hope you will RSVP and join us.

But I bet you have questions about what to expect.

I’m happy to answer those for you, but in short, all you have to do is show up. We start with prayer, a scripture reading and reflection time. You get to pause and be with the Lord before you ever have to say a single word about your dream.

There’s something about taking time to be with your own thoughts; most of us don’t do enough of that, so I like to make space for this crucial practice in a dreamer’s life.

After that you’ll hear from other women who might be 1 or 2 steps ahead of you; they’ll share what they are working on, working through, and how they are processing the experience of pursuing a dream.

There’s a richness here that you can’t find on social media, in a YouTube video, or in any virtual community that lacks the faith component of pursuing a dream or goal. That’s what makes the spaces I create so unique.

Come and check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

I’ll leave you with this beautiful rendition of one of my favorite carols for the Advent season.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel (on the harp!)

Until next time,

I am with you in the dream,

~ Merritt
