Last week I wrote to you about the power of the right community and how it can move you forward instead of leaving you stuck in waiting mode.

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that community isn’t just helpful for dreamers. It’s essential. But not just any community.

In Christian circles, community often means gathering regularly to encourage one another, pray, share meals, and grow in faith together.

Those rhythms matter deeply in the life of the church. But when I talk about community as a greenhouse for your dream, I mean something more specific.

These three ingredients, working together, create momentum that’s almost impossible to manufacture alone:

1) Proximity

2) Frequency

3) Depth

Take a look at what happens if one of the three ingredients is lacking (and while you’re at it, think about which ones you have and which you don’t).

PROXIMITY + FREQUENCY

Proximity means having the right people (dreamers, like you, who are actively moving forward on a dream). Frequency means you gather regularly, for example: once a week. But without Depth, the conversations stay safe and surface-level. No one shares what’s really happening. And slowly, attendance drops because no one feels truly known.

When that happens, you’re right back where you started: feeling alone and isolated in your dream.

FREQUENCY + DEPTH

If you have Frequency and Depth but not Proximity to the right people, you may find your Bible study sisters, family members, or closest friends looking at you like a deer in headlights when you share about your dream. They aren’t sure about how to encourage you and often end up asking questions that make it feel like they’re trying to protect you rather than support you.

You still need these people in your life; they just shouldn’t be the only support system for your dream.

DEPTH + PROXIMITY

Finally, if you have Proximity to the right people and Depth of relationship, but you only see them once every 3-6 months, you might get that flash-in-the-pan spark while you’re together, but without Frequency it’s not enough to carry you until the next gathering.

Have you ever felt that high from attending an inspiring ladies retreat or conference? You’re so inspired and motivated to make change, but the spark fizzles out within 24 hours of arriving home, and six months later you can’t even find your notes.

This is why having all three together changes everything.

I bet you’ve lived some version of this already. And maybe this is a lightbulb moment where you can see which of the three is missing.

Or you’re remembering a season when all three were locked in for you. (What a blessing that was!) And you’re wondering how to find it again.
